Artist Tigran Tsitoghdzyan’s Studio and House

The project began as an extension to an existing family house, adding bedrooms and a pool. It later grew to include a spacious studio where the artist could work and exhibit paintings.

The site has a significant change in level between the village street to the north and the open landscape to the south. This condition produced two different scales: a chain of smaller one- and two-storey volumes facing the street, and a larger, more austere composition seen from the valley.

The extension joins the old and new houses through a common staircase. The studio is separated from the residential building by an entrance patio and a broad exterior stair made of basalt blocks. Architectural concrete, local basalt and glass give the building a deliberately monochrome character.
